Title is too long.

So you see a pissy parent being kinda mean to their bratty kid. It's obvious they hate their life and their life choices. Do you automatically think they're terrible parents or do you even consider that they could have shitty kids that make their life hell and the kids amp it up in public because they know Mom and Stepdad can't do anything to them in the store?

It seems to me that kids are increasingly bratty, louder, less mindful of space and others and in general are bigger pains in the asses than what I observed just 10 years ago.

I never threw tantrums in stores because I knew I was getting beat when we got home if I did. I also used to sympathize for the kids. Now. I'm not so sure they don't deserve their bad parents.

If I had a dollar every time there was a thread about how awesome it was to beat your kids on this forum I'd retire tomorrow.

Sounds like the parents' fault in most cases.

I try not to judge people, especially parents, based on one snapshot of their life. Every kid loses his shite on occasion, and so do most parents.

That's reasonable and refreshing.

I rarely go to places with large numbers of parents and kids. Too annoying to deal with.

I'm much better as the fun uncle with the fun toys.

It's a new philosophy, approximately 2 years, 1 month and 3 weeks old.

How old are you? Kids below the age of ten have probably acted the same in the past three decades. Some are good. Some are bad. Facts of life. Why do you hate them?

It varies from situation to situation.

My mom and dad did a good job at raising me and 2 of my brothers and my sister. All 3 of the boys turned out great thanks to some good parenting. My sister on the other hand enjoys being a piece of shite even though she was never brought up to act that way. None of us can figure it out.

Sometimes it's the parents and sometimes it's bad luck with a shitty kid.

My kids could be bratty at times, but we're all human. If I was having a bad day and they were having a bad day, you might have misinterpreted my frustrated efforts to redirect them as hatred. My kids are some of my best friends.

So, maybe turn down the self-righteousness from about 8 to about a 2 and we should be A-OK.

Perhaps you are more cynical and jaded than you were 10 years ago.

If kids really are worse these days (I'm very skeptical), why do you think that's the case? You seem to think that these kids are worse because they're just born that way? Or because this generation is just somehow inherently a bunch of jerks for no real reason?

If they are indeed worse, it is the fault of their parents, not the kids themselves. Kids will misbehave when they are allowed to misbehave and don't have clear guidelines for behavior. That's the parents job. And no, that doesn't require beating them.

Parents who hate their kids have a selfish view of parenting and didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They're mad at their kids for making their lives harder. Well, duh. Having kids is hard.

They aren't more bratty.

And you probably threw a tantrum once or twice.
