I mean, if you’re offended by the term “coonass”, you prolly wouldn’t have the backside of a raccoon mounted on a wall “at da camp”. Lol. I knew a few people that had this growing up

What the actual meaning is and what it stands for are two different things. I’m from a long line of Cajuns and I’m proud to be a coonass
Also, I’ve been called far worse with zero impact. I remember being very young, maybe 6-7, and a group of kids were making fun of me for being poor as hell. I got in trouble for chasing them and hitting one of them. I told my mom what happened and she said “where are the bruises? Or you bleeding some where?” I said “no they were saying stuff they didn’t hit me” and she replied with “words can only hurt if you allow them too”. Same thing I teach my kids but I guess a lot of parents teach the exact opposite.

I think that is where I’d get my coonass card revoked, 777. Lol. I can’t deal with swamp pop lol. There I said it. Feels liberating

I did not know the heritage behind the word and I'm not from Louisiana, although I did live in Baton Rouge for about a year once.
I've never thought of the term as derogatory, just a colorful way to refer to a unique and distinctive culture in Louisiana. Y'all have nothing to be ashamed of and much to be proud of. Wear it well and with pride.
