I have made a conscious decision to refer to them as pound signs instead of hashtags.

People under the age of 15 probably only know the # to be a hashtag and not a pound sign.

Exactly why I insist on referring to it as a pound sign. I hate trendy things...if my teenager gets embarrassed, that's just icing on the cake.
