Mid sept my contact will be up.. Year trial program free HBO stars showtime. My question is when should I cancel? Also how long do I have to wait to reapply to be a new customer. In other words how long will I be in the cable companies database

Are you trying to scam them?
Posted on 8/15/15 at 8:10 am to Deactived
Well I wanna get a decent cable price with the free premium channels. If that's scamming then yes

In my experience, calling them or going to the office and explaining what you want(without being a jackass about it) can usually get you the best deal possible.

I called XM radio and asked to reduce my bill bc I'm not in the truck 2+ hours a day anymore. Told them that I really do like my service and want to keep it, but not at what I was currently paying as it wasn't worth it.
The reduced my bill and said to call back in October (when the special ran out) and see what specials they were running then. It was that simple as calling and asking rather than demanding and/or playing games.

Although, calling them and being nice and all is a good way to be civil, if you have cable with COX , good luck with that strategy.

We actually just signed up with COX for cable after contract with directv ran out. We got pretty much all the sports channels, HBO, Starz, redzone, etc for $75 a month with no contract. Ask what deals they have for month to month prices if you don't want to worry about a contract.

i do it every two years
i have a ton of (HD)channels (all the sports packs) and i've been averaging 120ish dollars a month for top tier internet and cable TV, for about 6-7 years now.
but i've also been a COX customer for 16 years.
It's a very simple call, when you know how to do it.

Call and just keep saying cancel until you get to the retention department. Then hold out till you get the deal you want.
If you really don't want to go through the hassle of cancelling and are not getting new customer pricing. Hang up the phone wait a while and call back to get someone else.
If you do cancel, most cable c companies consider you a new customer after 90 days. Most will send new customer offers within a month though. DirecTV usually sends offers after two weeks along with 200 dollar gift card to buy you out of other contract

I've called them and been nice and all they ever try to do is drop it 10%. I've been with COX for over 10 years. New customers are always going to get good deals. I pay 166 with mid range Internet and HD DVR box with sports package. No movie channels. I don't see how you can get all of the stuff you say for less than that.
I don't call them raising hell or any of that. I try to be nice, but when you offer $12 off after you just raised it $10 or whatever it is, I can't do anything but say that isn't good enough.
Would love to hear what you say, for them to just say yeah you can still pay us what it was years ago.

You have to say cancel until you get to retention department all the other customer service reps won't give you anything.
Never take the first offer either, they always come back with lower price

I've asked for the retention department right off the bat and they do similar stuff and want to get me in a two year contract for $15 dollars off. That is why it's $166 now. They wanted 180 something, with fees and taxes this and tax that I can't remember what it was.

Cut the chord, already. You don't need cable from any of these guys. All you need is their internet and an Amazon fire TV box (or firestick) with KODI/XBMC loaded on it. That's it. Do the research.

Well it sucks, but you could always cancel for a month and then wait the month or so to get new customer pricing. Just wait for the slow sports months

Works great for everything but sports. Don't tell me borrow someone else's ESPN account info as alternative.

I'm going to cancel it after football season. I'll keep the Internet and we will see what happens. If I can get the pricing you are receiving, I would sign the contract. The best deal I got from them was when I posted on their Facebook page. It took two weeks but they gave me a "fair" deal, compared to what they were originally asking. That was last year and this year, they got stupid with the $180 bill. If I had multiple boxes and top of everything, then I could see it maybe being this high. I also don't have the phone service, which they keep pushing. I don't want a house phone.

To each their own. I'm not paying $1500.00 a year to watch ESPN. Not hard to figure out.

Cut the cable. You can always watch it a day later on Rainierland.com
