he's looking to play high school soccer, football (kicking for now

I've seen this quite a bit lately...over protective parents scared of football make the kids play soccer. Now fast forward to HS and many want to be on the football team because soccer is no longer cool. They have a long way to catch up to the kids that have been playing football for 5 or 6 years already.

And it seems they all want to kick so they don't have to get hit. It will be fun to see how it all plays out next year when my son and his buddies get to HS.

get him a set of wooden rings and you can hang from the ceiling in the garage or you can hang from one of the handles on the campus wall. with rings and two or three chairs from the kitchen he can do 95% of what he needs to do.

Football here is a very short season and not really worth giving up all year soccer for. I bet my boy can kick better than those kids who've played it for 5-6 years...but I see your point. He'll obviously not be a WR unless he really wants to in 7th and 8th and absolutely has a talent for it. We play street ball all of time and he thinks he's badass...but he's never been hit.

He's been practicing place kicking for years and he's the kid who takes PKs in club soccer...but obviously the pressure in high school FB games is something he's never experienced. He goes to every game though, and is sure he can do it.

I know a lot of very good high school football players who didn’t start playing football until 7th or 8th grade. If he wants to kick awesome, but have him practice another position too.

Boxing, jiu jitsu, wrestling, etc. would be great physical sports to get involved with as well. They work muscles that you may not even have to engage when doing some weights. Keeps you flexible and builds muscular and cardiovascular endurance.

I’m a football coach, and we push multiple sports. Wrestling is one we push for 9th graders. It really gets them in control of their bodies, and knocks off the baby fat. It teaches them to be confident, and aggressive/under control.

True, but I'm talking about the ones who have never even touched a football or made contact with anything other than a Playstation 4 controller trying to play HS ball for a upper tier football program.
