My understanding of the situation was always that he did it to protect Willie and himself
If he jumps in the ride and cruises off then Willie is an accomplice who can later roll on P once them Feds offer him a deal
But if he puts the gat to Willies dome and threatens to peel his cap back, then Willie can play the victim role in front them people and claim he just got carjacked
