I'm salary. I get paid to do a job. I don't get paid to work a certain amount of hours. There is no such thing as OT where I work. Rarely do I have to do it, but about 4-6 times a year I'll have to pull 24 hours at work due to ongoing operations. I am pretty much on call 24/7 to take technical calls, but again it's not like the phone is ringing off the hook......very manageable. I typically call it quits at ~3 pm on most days and work by phone after that. I get paid according to the value I bring to the company and if I worked hard enough and brought a little extra, I get a bonus. I just don't understand the concept of OT for a salary position I guess. It makes no sense. Those employees just as soon be hourly.

I only get OT when I am working onsite at a project, but since I only work onsite, I get OT. If I took a job in the Baton Rouge office, I wouldn't get OT or per diem...I'll work projects.

Figure out how many employees I would need for no overtime. If I still have applications then I start trimming the fat

Now unpaid overtime, that's what makes people upset. Especially if their position was made salaried.

Preach.

What's up with all these people claiming "straight time overtime"? Nonexempt employees should be getting time and a half.

Because for someone like me, I am an exempt employee due to salary, but if I work over 40 hours, I get paid based off what my hourly would be.

I.E. If I make $50k / yr, it comes out to $24.04 / hr. If I work 10 hrs OT a week, it comes out to $240.40 additional income a week.

At any decent white collar job "overtime" is just considered normal hours. 50 hours at least is expected

why don't you just hire the appropriate amount of workers where you don't have to ask for a lot of overtime from people?

I have a decent, white collar, salary job where 50 hours (5/10s) is expected but I get additional income for the Fridays since I am over 40 hrs.

hire another person. Part time if that's all you need. Why would you want to pay that much overtime?

Is overtime when you actually have to work after lunch? Because I have to do that sometimes too, and it sucks.

I could work till 11 am every day and call it quits and still get more done than other people in office that "work" 8.

So you get overtime. I don't understand your point.

I was responding to Parade Ground's comment:

When I am assigned a project outside of the main office, I get paid additional income (straight time) when I go over 40. The main office works 4/10s and get their salary. Since I am working more than my BR office counterpart, I get straight time OT.

My point being that some "decent white collar jobs" get overtime.

I had an insurance company client that hired temps at $14 per hour to stuff mailers into envelopes. At the end of assignment, the company realized that the mailers had an error so they announced to the temps that they needed to come in the next day (with pay obviously) to unstuff the envelopes.

Black woman jumps up and loudly states "I'll tell you what, you hired me to stuff them mother frickers, not unstuff 'em." She then walked out.

I have a few guys that bitch and moan when they have to work overtime. Maybe 10 hours tops per week

Then I have about 10+ applications sent in from employees from our competitors sending in applications because they are not getting at least 30 hours/ week where they are currently working and they want to work for us

Business people.. what would you do in my case?

How many guys do you have who are getting 10 hours a week over time? Because at some point it seems like it would more economically feasible for you to hire more hands ? I mean if you have 4 guys working 10 hours over time each, hiring one new full time guy and giving him those 40 hours would be cheaper , wouldn't it?

You missed my point. I meant working 50 hour work week vs working a 40 hr work week is nothing to bitch, moan, and complain about.

It may when they work another job, have to pick a kid up from aftercare, or miss their basketball games, etc.
