The worst, in my opinion, are the kids who have no business playing beyond their shitty high school team but their parents don’t have the balls or self-awareness to give it to them straight, so the kid proceeds to waste two to four years of his life at a shite rural JUCO or shite small NAIA college for the sake of playing by baseball a few more years.
I don’t think that’s that big of a deal. It’s not like they’re spending the type of money on tuition and stuff that they would be if their son went to a university. Can also knock all your pre reqs out the way at a more affordable price at least.

Lol, a bunch of the travel ball kids I went to school with went to schools nobody had ever heard of. A couple of them went to three different schools over five or six years.

Most parents put their kids in it to fit in (both the parents and the kid) as a social status. The parents enjoy the social aspect far more than the kids. Getting Jayden to play high school or college ball is just the lie they tell themselves to justify the travel ball.

I honestly didn’t expect the travel ball lobby to step up in this thread. I admire the dedication.
I also love the knee jerk “sorry your kid wasn’t that good” responses. Stay classy, LP.

If you’re asking the question, you already know the answer.

My daughter started playing rec league softball, and was asked to play on a travel team. She wanted to do it, so I supported that. Not once did anybody push her into playing. She really enjoys it.
They play in tournaments every 2-3 weekends, all within a 30 min driving distance. I've enjoyed the hell out of watching her play, and she's improved tremendously. If she was playing rec league softball she would still be playing against kids who are incapable of throwing a strike.
It's been great for her, and a joy for me to watch her grow. The knock on travel ball by idiots here is pretty ignorant. You want to lump everybody into the very few teams who travel multiple states, play year round, and play every weekend. That's not the reality though.

Freshmen year for the super entitled ones and junior year for the rest . Parents start making the excuses then . Like the high school coach has his favorites or one kids parents donate money or the kid just isn’t into it anymore

Y'all frickers hate some baseball and softball around here.
If you don't like it, don't put your kids in travel. I run a team, 99% of the stereotypes here do not apply. The kids just like playing together in a competitive environment. The parents enjoy the tournament days.
It works for some, if it doesn't for you that's all good too.

I can feel the jealousy coming out of you.
Your kid is loser nerd.
It’s ok . Don’t hate on others who have athletic kids.

Full disclosure. My daughter had a similar story. She could hit and she could pitch, and she played a little travel ball.
My issue is not with the kids. Kids just want to belong and have fun. My issue is with the travel ball parents. Not the casual, realistic ones like you (and me), but the hardcore ones who live in a dream world.
You think they would ever spend that kind of money on tutors so their kid could get an academic scholarship? LOL. No.

95% of kids/parents fit into this box. Is it really necessary to start a thread about the maybe 5%, while making it seem like you throw everybody into that one category?

Maybe... several of my friends played "pro ball" for a few years before giving up the ghost.
The kind of pro ball where you share rooms, eat ramen, and crash on friend's couches when in town. I think they even had to pay for their own baseball card lol.
And then, when it's all over... you have a sub-average student who has never done anything other than play a sport. But then again, we do need used car salesmen.

That's the joke. Your kids aren't as "athletic" as you think they are. It's like paying for "who's who," and touting it.
Meanwhile, loser nerd gets actual full scholarship, and graduates into a six figure job. Braxxytn graduates thanks to social promotion with a C average, and drives an Amazon van.

I don’t have a son playing baseball, but I would pay money as long as the kid tried hard, competed to win, and had fun with his teammates.

When some grown arse man coach with a porn stache, man-tights, and pit vipers made him run for an hour in 108 heat, until they started puking, after playing two games at the arse crack of dawn in nowhere Texas. Frick that. I’ll pay full out of state tuition before I put up with that shite again.
