There is. Privilege doesnt exist in the norm.

You're trying to twist this into a something not, but that's pretty much your MO..

My mom was born in a two parent household, her dad was in the war much of her young childhood and died when she was 11.

Was she privileged?

I grew up mostly in a single parent household with my dad. My wife lived in a two parent home and had far less than I did growing up. Her parents were also teenagers when they had their two children.

I'm in your boat my man. Working to pay off two mortgages, sending one through grad-school and one under-grad. Pumping $$ into 401K and an IRA, socking away for retirement & planning to leave a hefty chunk to my kids and pay for future grand kid's college education.

Some call that privilege, it's just plain common sense and hard work.

I haven’t twisted anything. I used the literal definition. If you have issues with that, write a letter to MW or something, idk.

So she essentially was raised in a 1 parent household? You don’t think she would’ve preferred to have both parents alive and there?

That's the issue with the SJW crowd, no understanding of nuance whatsoever.

In some situations living with both parents can be harmful. Depends on the situation.

Second generation American. My mother and father couldn't have been more proud to be American. All of their children served including my dad. My grandparents came when Sicilians were strung up in New Orleans and weren't allowed in certain towns. Never heard them complain, whine, or riot. They just worked hard so we didn't have to.

Theres been an attack on bootstrap philosophy by the commies for decades, usually kids who never had to work hard and dont understand it.

Theres a decided advantage to working hard, growing up around people of all SeS backgrounds. It makes you a better person.

I don't feel privileged. My grandparents came into this country around the time of WWI. They were poor as shite. They came here and worked their asses off in the northern factories until they had enough money to move further south.
Then they worked some more. They grew crops to survive and hunted and fished. They were hard working decent people who raised hardworking decent children.
They came here with nothing and worked for it without whining and complaining. They sure as hell weren't privileged, but they were grateful to be here and for what they had.

Well ya. There's a reason why the people screaming loudest about "white privilege" usually are white and come from a wealthy background.

Projection and all that jazz.

This has been my experience with them.

No doubt. I still joined the Army and paid my way through LSU on scholarship. But they gave me the opportunity opposed to working in a factory or a field as what I would probably be doing if we were still in Sicily.

Umm, learning to have a strong work ethic rather than wait for a government handout? Learn to be grateful for what you have and proud to be an American? Learned to appreciate the hard work and struggles his ancestors endured to make something out of nothing in this country?

He may appreciate the values of hard work from his grandparents and strives to do the same in his own life.

Ok - what’s that got to do with being privileged (or not)?

The issue with the term “privilege” is the way that progressives imply a negative connotation to it. If you grab two random people each will have certain “privileges” over the other. That does not mean that we as a society should attempt to remove these privileges to create a “fair” environment, because in doing so, you will inherently create other “privileges”.

Basically, play the hand you’re dealt to the best of your ability and you can be successful.

That’s very close to what I’ve been saying.

My entire point is that it isn’t bad to acknowledge getting a better hand. You don’t get to choose your hand, you can only work with what you’ve got.

I’ve not once acted like anyone should apologize for getting a good hand like some have implied in here.

No, but you skirt the line to get people to argue with you for the sake of argument

You’re a miserable SOB, tbh

Where is that happening other than your mind?
