Had a UPS guy coming into our office and I happened to be headed out the door. I held the door for him and his dolly full of boxes and said...

"Hey man, how's your day?"

He says, "Don't call me that"

I am all confused. "Don't call you what?"

"Say hey man to me like that"

"Why is that wrong aren't you a man?"

"I am a black man."

"So I should say Hey black man next time?

"No you know what I mean. That's racist"

"All I said was "Hey man, how's your day?" as far as I know, I am man and you are a man. You brought color and race into this, not me. Remember that the next time you try to call someone out for that bullshite" And I walked away shaking my head.

I don’t know about it being racist but it gets under my skin when someone older than me calls me son or boy. I think its just disrespectful.

The cries of racism in this country are beyond out of control. There are very few true racists in this country and most of them are black to begin with.

I think "son" can be like using "boy". If a old white dude tells a black man "hey boy, go get my coffee" because that is how they use to be addressed,

But there is a gray area when it comes to "son". Older people will say that to anyone younger than them. Either way, he probably should have just went in, got his check and left. No reason to burn bridges. And if the dude was being racist during that one little episode, there really isn't much that dude or his ho can do.

Everything is racist if you're white. If you're not, then nothing is racist.

When did one person saying "son" is racist mean it's actually racist? Seems like you're making broad assumptions based on one person's negative reaction to it.

Am I to assume that the person referred to as “son”, is a negro man?
