Election of Obama. People voted for him because he portrayed himself as a great uniter. He in fact was a great divider that wanted to fundamentally change America.
I'm no Obama fan, but what did he do to make you say he was a great divider? I think things like 911 and technology have had a far bigger impact than Obama

Obama going on ESPN to talk about race relations.
People elected Obama to end foreign wars and bring middle class back. He did neither except lecture & divide the population

If you think society is bad now, read up on the mid-60s to the mid-70s or so

The 90s were peak society. Everything went to shite after December 31st 1999

America jumped the shark in the late 1970s with disco.

It went to shite long before 2013. I'd peg it around the mid-90s when the questioning of American institutions first started cropping up.

The police acted stupidly
If I had a son…..
called Tim Scott an Uncle Tom.
I don’t think you are being serious.

So 1982-1995 roughly was peak society?
Posted on 9/12/25 at 3:31 pm to cajuntiger1010
Whenever social media became the main thing and the new weaponized it. Left and Right. I was watching a YouTube clip of the guy that did the shooting, Fox News comments are "Great job, life sentence, yadayadayada". Just for curiosity I go over to CNN just to see what's happening there. comments are "FBI didn't do anything, FBI got played, the guy turned himself it, yadayadayada". The news feeds into it and social media news channels will feed into it. It's all a vicious circle. I absolutely hate it.

It's not, social media amplifies all this. Most people are just going about their business
I understand what you are saying, but if lunatics are doing lunatic things at a prodigious rate, most people minding their own business and being neutral overall is not a valid defense against society going to shite.

The literal most violent time in US history?
And let's not forget the abortions

Decided that thoughts and prayers were the only action we would take when kids got murdered in schools.

It sounds ridiculous when you put it like that but in a lot of ways it was certainly one of the most peaceful and prosperous times in American history.

I'd concur with 2013'ish.
Maybe even 9/11/2001, but we were still being fed the narrative at that time so there was some, "innocence," for lack of a better term, left.
Obama completely upended race relations, set off a new leftist movement, then refused to bow out of politics like most presidents before him. Add in that social media was then common use and the free exchange of information was wide open, and you're off to the races.
Not too long ago I was completely against an age verification for social media users. It's just one more way for them to commoditize us with more information, but now I disavow that viewpoint. Keep any one under 17 off of social media. None of my children will step foot into the social media landscape until then, and most of our friend group is the same, with the exception of single mother who's 9 year old son is a bad news train coming down the tracks, and a lot of it is because of unfettered access to social media.
Social media has an extremely valuable place in society. It has completely uprooted mainstream media narrative making powers, it is invaluable for bringing power to the people, but there is such thing as too much, even for an adult, and the negatives for minors seems to outweigh the positives.
The single best thing a human being can do for themselves and their society, circa 2025, is turn off social media after they're done taking a shite on the toilet. Everything in moderation.

I didn't say that. I said we don't do anything and just accepted it.

There's always been crime, you're just seeing it a lot more because of the internet. 20 years ago, you likely don't even know who a Charlie Kirk is.

I saw your little chart. There are many versions of "going to shite" in play here. I chose to look at this from a political perspective, which is absolutely what is driving a wedge in our society today. Globally, there was very little conflict relative to most other periods in history...thus "peaceful".
