I got a nice pair of Nikes that are white just for walking around. Had a good pair a running shoes that became too worn out after 3-4 years. I've found their running shoes are still fashionable with everyday outfits.
Now, I agree with your post in regards to Basketball shoes.
The plus side, the ones that aren't over-the-top are usually cheaper. Win for me.

Switch to puma. That is my current go to brand, I never really been a Nike guy..

I was in middle school in like 88-89 when the air max first came out and I had a pair. They were sweet. Had some Jordans right before that.
After that they went to shite fast. Been new balance and asics since.

This is the pair.
I was mocked by a few people, as most vvisionaries are, "you running a marathon after school?" And so forth.
Awe all know how the running shoe caught on.
I was like 13 and thought the air bubble was cool.

Eta. I would still wear those btw. And they're apparently available online.

I wore Nike Cortez. They still sell them but I'll be the quality is far far from what it was in the 80's. Mine lasted years of daily wear.
