The preferred term is “majorette”, and yeah, it’s a lost art. You have to be good at dancing but also you have to have the coordination not to drop the baton.

Jacksonville State came to Tiger Stadium in 2016 and their entire band, with majorettes, blew the crowd away.
The most memorable halftime I recall in Tiger Stadium.

LSU is actually one of the only SEC team to not have at least a featured twirler and most have a team.
