That they would be a bipolar lunatic who lives on your couch forever.

I know two families, one set of parents in their 50s and the other in their 70s, with high maintenance insane kids living with them and making their lives miserable on a regular basis.

The damned video monitor keeps me up at night. If I wake up and look at it, I don't go back to sleep until I see him move. He's way beyond SIDS ade, but I still have to make sure everything's okay before I can sleep.

As shitty as it sounds, that they have downs or autism, although there's no reason for me to think that's likely.

Anyone who castigates me because of how pure and loving these kids are are full of shite and haven't witnessed first hand how hard that life is on the child and their family.

You would be surprised at what you are capable of if this happened. I have one with a disability and couldn't love him more or be more proud. It just different things that you are proud of.

This. It happend after two kids. A contributing factor might have been that she turned out to be a crazy, gold digging, heartless bitch.

I have one with fairly severe ADHD, which can be a nightmare sometimes.

I also have an 8 yr old with high functioning autism. Set routines and patterns. It takes a bit longer for him to adjust to social behaviors we all get naturally. He does great at school but could give a shite about those accomplishments.

What he cares about is video games and throwing football and baseball with me. He can throw and catch with the best of them although he may never really care to play organized ball. He can tell you the score of the Saints / Falcons games for the past few years. He excels at the piano. He's quirky as hell but is one of the most interesting people I know.

I guess what I'm saying is that you just have to go with your situation. My kids are not "normal" by a lot of standards but find a way to fit in somehow. It can be a struggle as a parent but it it's what it is. I had preconceived notions about what things would be like before they were born. They shape your reality in more ways than you shape theirs. I couldn't be prouder as a parent, especially because they don't have it "built-in easy".
