I tend to hear about four different types of relationships between children and their dad...

1. I hate that m'fer

2. Love/hate relationship. I tend to keep my distance and that works best.

3. I've grown to love and appreciate him as I've grown older.

4. That's my dog. He's always been my go to person for anything I need in life. Couldn't live without him.

I fall within #2. I'm way closer to my mom versus my dad. My dad just fuss so much about every damn thing. He's been that way my entire life. I just keep my distance to maintain my sanity and peace in my life.

Between one and two. Last month I met with him for the first time in over ten years. He apologized for a lot of things in his visit for decisions made in the past. It was helpful to hear it.

wish i'd asked so many more questions about life.

Then it was too late.

Always loved and respected my dad. Don't think he's ever told me anything that hasn't been right.

Don't get to see him often, though. He lived in the VI for 20+ years and is now in Portugal.

My dad passed away 12 years ago. I miss him dearly and still to this day get choked up when I think about him randomly. He was a quiet guy who you listened to when he talked. As we both got older we got closer. So I guess #3 fits our relationship best.

3. My Dad ruled the house with fear growing up. Through the years he has chilled out and I understand a lot of his challenges now that I have a family of my own. We have gotten closer, but there still remains a slight barrier that we can’t seem to break through.

My dad passed 4 years ago. He was the nicest person I ever met. I realized this before he died but was too stubborn to realize it. I say this with all sincerity, love your parents. You have no clue what they have gone through to raise us.

4, and I aspire to be a 4 for my daughter.

That’s the job.

He died awhile ago.

We were buddies while he was alive.

Saw him about once every month or two and talked on the phone for about 15 minutes every week or two (mostly about LSU, Saints, and baseball).

I miss him.

If you like old big black women, then do your thing. I'm not standing in your way.
