You want the boom you take the gloom. Where the hell else are that many people gonna live in Cameron Parish?

During Katrina, some companies set up camps using some of these same contractors. They were pretty nice.

These kinds of things happen when you have such a huge discrepancy between the demand for labor and the local supply. This is a good thing. These are temporary jobs, so having these "man camps" to house them makes those jobs more attractive to workers because they don't have to worry about the inconvenience and extra cost of staying in hotel rooms or renting a home for several months. Also, it keeps local rent and housing prices down some by keeping at least part of this huge glut of temporary workers out of the housing market.

Sounds like a 3rd world model to me.

That would be considered an upgrade for Cameron Parish.

Small versions of this have been around a long time. Contractors house illegals in old trailers etc (usually in the equipment yard or nearby). They basically get the workers dependent on them for food and shelter and pay them only a few bucks out of pocket. Kind of sick but so is swimming to another country to be a leach.

They should call them "men 6 months behind on child support villages."
