Couple B is free to have kids and get that time “off”
Life’s about choices. Couple B made their choice.

This is the problem in a good idea being inserted in a society/culture where it'll be a good idea in a sea of dumb, modern, progressive ideas and policies.
Theoretically, "other employees taking up the slack" is 100% what we absolutely want as a society. It's how functioning communities, companies and societies work. BUT, I understand how taking a romanticized mindset like that and implementing one piece of policy without shifting a bunch of other stuff (including attitudes that aren't going to be immediately impacted by anything government does) isn't some panacea

Laughed hard at this one. If you suck at your job agreed. If you add value they will wait for you. Its that simple.
Have a good day.
Smile.

i literally said in this thread that dads are not just important but CRUCIAL.
what isnt crucial is 8 weeks of hanging around an infant.

Yeah.
And in a culture where we support familial units, we would all do it gladly.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to cap the amount and frequency that you could use maternity/paternity leave. Just throwing that out there.
That said, I don't have any biological children and at multiple jobs have had to pick up the slack of my coworkers who had to take maternity leave. Those same people took up the slack when I had to be out due to surgery and when my Mom died.

My wife had a stroke Monday, I am having to take a week off without pay, maybe more to be in Anchorage with her.
Its life, deal with it like grownups.

Im assuming this guy is a shift worker who has no coverage.
So this one example is why it doesnt work for everyone?
Stupid.
If your company offers it, they should schedule better. If he took his time off and you are bitching about another man having a child you need to re-evaluate yourself.

Sorry about your wife's stroke and hope she recovers ok. But I have to call this out a little bit.
Didn't you just tell everyone in this thread that they should have managed their leave better to take off for maternity/paternity leave? Shouldn't you not use all of your paid time off so you could have some in case of emergency? Or if you don't have PTO, put back funds to cover potential emergencies that would cover you if you have ot take off?

Yes, actually I do. For the same reason that our Republican candidate for Vice President would: LINK
Childlessness is a progressive agenda. Anti- family and anti-child stances are their foundation. Conservatives should be taking the initiative on this.
If you are contributing to the good of our country by holding down a job and having kids who will then become hardworking taxpayers, good on you. Framing it as "time off" in the same sense as someone taking a vacation is where we have a disconnect. No one doing parental leave the right way is getting a vacation out of it. shite, I was ready to get back to work after my 6 weeks. But make no mistake, if we don't make some changes then the leeches of society will overwhelm us soon.
