How is it absurd?
Las Colinas has an urban core and more businesses than downtown Dallas.
Yet what decides that Dallas is the urban core? Because it was there first? Lol...
If the Westbank had an actual urban core that rivaled New Orleans (it won’t ever) then you could make a claim that by population it IS the urban core now.
As Pettit and other posted and referred too, places such as Las Colinas, Frisco, Plano are becoming wayyyyy more urban than you give them credit for.

Dallas Mafia Applicant checking in...what's the question? Is Las Colinas a suburb? I say Yes.
Do most suburbs have several 10+ story buildings? No
Does Las Colinas have several 10+ story buildings? Yes
Do most Dallas suburbs have several 10+ story buildings? Yes
Las Colinas wouldn't be a suburb of Birmingham, but it is a suburb of Dallas.
So there you have it. Who wants to join me for lunch at Thirsty Lion tomorrow?

I mean basically. It's still the center of the entire area. Dallas proper is still the 3rd biggest city in the state.

I lived in McKinney and worked in Frisco for 3 years. My wife grew up in Plano. Her parents still live in Plano and mine live in McKinney. We're in the areas a lot. No one would ever mistake urban spots in the suburbs for the spots they're trying to become in Dallas proper. The urban spots in the burbs are like I said, those master planned shopping center/residence complexes.
That's not to say it isn't fun or anything. I'd just much rather spend my time down here in places like deep ellum than shops at legacy.
