M97 trench gun. So lethal that Germany complained it was inhumane that the Americans used them. This from someone who introduced mustard gas to the war.

A part of the German protest read that "[i]t is especially forbidden to employ arms, projections, or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering" as defined in the 1907 Hague Convention on Land Warfare.[2] This is the only known occasion in which the legality of actual combat use of the shotgun has been raised.[17] However, the United States interpreted their use of the shotgun differently than Germany. The Judge Advocate General of the Army, Secretary of State Robert Lansing carefully considered and reviewed the applicable law and promptly rejected the German protest.[17] France and Britain did use shotguns in trench warfare weapons during World War I. The shotgun in question was a double-barreled shotgun, which was not used because they were unable to obtain high powered ammunition and that type of gun is slow to reload in close combat.[17]

I think this was one of the bigger myths of the war. In reality, shotguns weren't used very much. The biggest reason being that the paper shells that were used didn't handle wet trench conditions well at all.

I don't know how this thread has went six pages with no mention of the GOAT, but I'm here to rectify that situation.

I have fired one, will own one if the right gun ever comes around.

CIWS(cheesewiz), R2D2, Phalanx

It had many names but still one of the coolest and scariest systems I've ever seen in operation.

Trained on it back in the day and fell in love with this piece. The hit of that heavy slide was mesmerizing. I think I shot expert or better a few times. I now have a 1911 but not the old school Colt mines a Para-Ordnance varient.

I own a Garand and an M1A and love both.

M-14 is my absolute go to but I can't argue against any of these.

Then you should check out the goal keeper..
It uses the 30mm GAU-8 AVENGER ...

While the rate of fire is slower, the 30mm is far more leathal and provides much better standoff!!

Damn. You'll get no argument from me. Those are impressive. I've seen them static a few times working with other NATO navies but never in operation.

What?! No love for the Maxim 1904? Hiram Maxim's baby that was arguably the most deadly gun in the world? Yes it was developed and used in Europe before the US but since the US adopted it as well, I'm saying it counts.

I fired 100s of thousands of rounds through the GAU-8 running ammo test while in the Air Force..

Its by far the most impressive gun ever built.

3,900 SPM of 30mm will wreck some shite !!

I will say though, that the 20mm when not limited to 6,000 SPM has the ability to fire up to 9,000 SPM.. IS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE!
