I said everything there is expensive. As in like all the worthless tchotchkes they sell.

$60 mouse ears and $30 for a picture with a 39 year old pedophile dressed like Donald Duck.

Just because I can afford something doesn't mean I want to pay for it.

-Left the kid at home
-Wife ran the Honolulu marathon
-We stayed at Aulani (Disney resort)
-She did the Spa there and raved about it
-Pearl Harbor
-Ocean swimming
-Lots of golf

now you're just being ridiculous. Either you don't know what a melt is, or you don't know what it looks like when someone gets butthurt and starts being melodramatic and using hyperbole in all of their posts.

My son got a haircut on Main street for $18 and he got mickey ears with it.

$120 for memory maker and you get every picture you want including race photos, ride photos, photos with characters, and random ones throughout the parks.

Just to mind-frick the anti-Disney posters in this thread. 2 years ago I took the family to Hawaii through........... Disney......... (GASP)!!!! They have their own resort there with a top notch golf course. They had all kinds of activities, treks, etc for us to do and we didn't have to deal with the 3rd world riff-raff that runs around the streets of the Big Island.

I work with someone (who turns 50 in a couple weeks) who drives to DW with her husband and their two children, ages 18 and 20, every year for New Years.

That sounds a gabillion times better than Disney World.

There are videos out there of the party at EPCOT. For people that age, they'd definitely have fun. Lots of people who went to the Citrus Bowl this year did it... maybe they can chime in.

its funny

I grew in a family that was about as anti-Disney as it gets. My parents ingrained in us that people spend thousands of dollars to stand in line and that was all Disney was The topic of DW as a vacation never even came on the radar. We spent most summers in the mountains.

So, as an adult, I was much like the OP. I never even wanted to take my future children, but I knew my wife would want to go.

Now?

I absolutely cannot wait to live vicariously through my daughter at DW. And during the planning of this trip, I have learned that there is a lot more to do than just ride kid rides and all the kid stuff. Of course, we will be doing mostly that, but we definitely plan on swapping baby sitting duties with our friends that we are going with to have an "adult" night.

Should be fun. Kinda amazing how things change with different perspectives within your own life.

We get one trip around this ball of mud so why not do what you enjoy? Everything in this world is subjective and experiential. We quite enjoy going to Disney World. Once you are in the bubble that Disney masterfully creates, you can leave your day to day world behind and just be. No outside distractions. No work deadlines. I have been to almost every state in the union on some type of vacation or another. We have just started exploring Europe in all of its old world charms. We still try to do do a Disney trip at least every couple of years. If any of this makes us wierd,or odd, or immature, so be it. I will still enjoy my life just as much if you agree with my choices or not. The thing that I do not do is speculate on what other people do to enjoy themselves and how odd it makes me feel. That sounds like a personal shortcomming that you may want to work on.

eta: Fly your freak flag howwever you see fit but don't judge others for the things they do unless you have spent some time in their shoes.

What do you call a luxury vacation?
Being pampered and waited on hand and foot? Yup, they have that there.
Eating world class cuisine? You can find it there as well.
It is all about perspective.

It was ingrained in me for sure.

My parents bought into the "Vacation Club" back in 1994. I was 7. We went fairly often. I've never experienced the "cheaper" side of disney because of this. The rooms are condos. Every trip we did things outside of the park. We water skied, we went pool hopping, we did universal, we did the water parks, we did the tours.

And we would often bring people who have never been before. I grew up not just enjoying it for myself but getting to see others experience these things for the first time and realize that disney isn't exactly some tourist trap with long lines and heat (it can be that; don't get me wrong). And we've continued that. We bring family or friends often with people who haven't been or don't go often. It's always fun and even different for me letting them do what THEY want and enjoy.

Have you ever tried to buy "race photos" at other big events? $120 for that and all of your other pictures throughout your trip is one of the best purchases you can make there.

There are some expensive things at walmart. That doesn't make walmart a luxury store.

I just think it's funny you start a thread and complain how expensive Disney is and are now insisting that isn't expensive or "luxury."

Also if you have 2 (or more) kids Disney is way fricking expensive and a lot of families can't afford it.

I wouldn't call Disney a luxury vacation per se. But I think the theme here with most of us who go often is that we keep talking about the variety and that's true here as well. The grand floridian villas + victoria and albert's + the golf + private tours + boat rentals = something pretty close to what you'd experience at a high end resort anywhere else in the state.
