Another was a woman who had a c-section scheduled for Tuesday. You'd think they'd at least evac to the hospital sit it out in a waiting area though.

It depends on where it hits. BR still has them but unless it tracks in like a Gustav, we're out of power for a day if that? I usually grill up the steaks for family and friends.

i stayed in Lafourche Parish for Katrina due to work. Its is exciting in an adventurous kinda way. That is until around 24 hour mark with no power and 2 hour wait for gas and a 1/4 calf going bad in your freezer and cant reach family in NO and on and on and on

I've heard stories from Vermillion Parish after Rita where cattle ranchers wanted to get access to their rangeland to see how their herds made out, but the National Guard had the road blocked. The way I heard the story was that a retired Marine that was one of the ranchers noticed that the National Guard was unarmed and basically walked up to the sergeant in charge, started making small talk and along the way casually said the equivalent of 'Do you see that line of trucks that you're blocking? Look what's hanging in the rear window of every truck and look at what you're armed with. Those people have been through a lot, they're getting restless, and they are going to check on their belongings with or without your permission, so you need to do what you have to.'

The story goes that the sheriff was called posthaste and gave the National Guard the OK to move slowly down the road to make sure the way was clear for the ranchers "for safety". Whose safety the sheriff was protecting is left open to interpretation.
