What’s the proper way to shake a woman’s hand?

I shook a girl’s hand firmly upon meeting her for the first time in a business setting the other day, and she frowned at me like she was offended.
I was taught that you’re supposed to shake people’s hand’s firmly, so that’s why I did it.
So what’s the proper way to shake a woman’s hand?
1.) Shake her hand firmly just like you would with a man
2.) Shake her hand softly and gently and treat her like she’s delicate
