I have actually given this some thought in recent years. In another life, there was something unexplainable able the damn President on the wrist. Yes, it was probably a bit of a statement & ego, considering the side of the tracks I started, but gold was a lot less per ounce in those days.
Reached the point in my journey that, thanks to Chicago, does anyone really care what time it is.
Have not worn a watch in 20 years .... and do not miss it, but ..... I still look at used Rolex’s.
Let me know if you can figure out why, cause I can’t :-)

Next time you are in Manhattan stop by the Rolex Service Center on 5th avenue and have it professionally fit and balanced to your wrist. They will do it while you wait and may not even charge you. Would make a fun day trip regardless.

I’ll just keep my Apple Watch.

Well, your friends are of poor taste.
Last time I checked my contemporaries are also your contemporaries.

RE the Tudor Black Bay, I actually have mentioned this numerous times and actually posted the very same thing here on the last watch thread. Out of 100+ bracelets I have sized for me the Black Bay is the ONLY one I can not get comfortable no matter what I do, I have the exact same issue, either it is too loose or too tight and I don't consider myself that sensitive to bracelet comfort.
Oh and at least as of last year, Tudor does NOT make a half link. This is a well documented "issue" on WUS. I remember when they first came out I complained and people dismissed it but the awareness just keeps growing.

Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do that you can't do at home easily as long as you have the correct screwdriver for the screws and a toothpick for the micro-adjustment. With no half link and only 3 micro-adjust holes, it either works or doesn't. There has been much consternation over it posted on WUS over the years and outside one iffy workaround, there has been no solution if you are a tweener.

Glad y’all have done well, but still, what is the point? Not a fan of watches or jewelry of any kind. My boat is damn near 40 years old and runs like a top. I could pay cash for a fine boat, but the one I have works. Don’t get the fascination with material shite.

Any recommendations for a jeweler in the Dallas area that could replace battery and clean up an Ebel. I know it is not a Rolex, but that is beside the point. It was my Dad’s and my son really likes it. I would like to give it to him all cleaned up when he graduates college. Thanks

He is likely not the cheapest but the watchmaker I know in Dallas that does superlative work is Kevin at Time Tech. The other option would be to call Timeless Luxury Watches in Plano and ask if they have a local watchmaker recommendation. They are good people.

My $300-$400 tissot or sieko will look the same from a far. Seems like a waste to drop more than $500 on watch, especially in today’s age of cellphones and smart watches
Because you want a watch that keep shitty time and needs to be reconditioned every 5 years for $350.00. That's why. I hate mine. It's a damned cancer.

I am curious, what do you consider shitty timekeeping?

My watch runs up to 15 minutes fast each month. If you want to reset it each month and account for the over run up to that, you will love it. After I got it from my wife as an anniversary gift I asked the jeweler about it. He said "no one owns a Rolex as a time device. Just as a time piece."

cause if you knew what time it was
you wouldn't be in this here neighborhood

+30 sec a day is WAY out of spec, 5 times the maximum and probably 10-20 times the average of a Rolex COSC movement. I assume it is not a vintage watch. Since 2016 Rolex has moved their own certification @ -2/+2 daily variance, primarily in response to Omega METAS certification.
It honestly sounds like the amplitude is low and if you lived in BR I would be happy to put it on my Timegrapher and see about amplitude, beat error and isochronism. If you are getting the watch back from service running anywhere near this fast the watchmaker is not doing his or her job. A Rolex with Superlative Chronometer on the dial should run at most +6 seconds a day most will be closer to +2 or +3 a day.
Only the very best mechanical movements in top shape can match the very worst Walmart quartz movements. That said 15 minutes a month fast is down at the level of the very worst quality mechanical movements. In the hands of a real watchmaker, the vast majority of your issue can be resolved.

My grandfather bought a Rolex in Paris near the end of WWII.
I always thought it was cool and always wanted one. So I bought myself one about 3yrs ago.
My Aunt still has my Grandfathers. Still runs. Hoping she will give it to me one day because she knows I love it.

I bought my Rolex when I was 26 years old.
I had no business owning one, I made a very modest living at the time..
some of my friends had one and I thought I just had to have one too...I think I thought the women would be impressed?, who knows what I was thinking back then but it was a worldly purchase for sure...
After 26 years of owning it, it still looks brand new...and I believe it's worth nearly double what I paid for it.
I don't wear it much anymore.... My tradesmen and clients probably don't appreciate the symbolism of a Rolex "Dang GC is making too much money"...
as I get older, the less important it is to me, though I don't want to give it up... I hope to give to my son one day.
