i have a truck with a 5' bed, and my suv had a 2-3' bed. the suv was carpeted but the truck bed is not.
my wife is troubled by being in the suv with a "dirty" shovel, which had been scraped, washed, dried and hermetically sealed, but she has no problem with a dirty shovel in the bed of the truck.
i'm slightly below your average age, so my age may be the true reason instead of my perceived reasons.

You gonna throw a freshly killed whitetail buck deer into the back of your suv? What about generator covered in dust and funk and smelling like gas?
Didn't think so.
It's weatherproof, secure storage for baws doin baw stuff. I don't have one but at times I wish I did.
