I am going through the same assessment. I have a verbal offer for a great position in Seattle. While I wait for the written offer, am giving a lot of thought to projects on my plate and hoe best to transition responsibilities to my staff. I plan to sit down with my supervisor this week with the transition plan in hand and will propose a 4-week exit plan, which seems like a reasonable balance of the needs of both parties. I then pack the car and leave BR in the rear view window.

I gave 6 weeks notice at my previous job and my current employer was fine with it because my position was a new one and it wasn't crucial that they have someone start right away.

It sounds like the company you're working for is a large company if you're supporting several plants worldwide; in that case it is their fault to not have a contingency plan in place if 1-2 employees leave in a short timespan. Would it be possible for you to write documentation for your replacement to follow?

OP, don't burn bridges. You never know if you will have to cross that bridge again.

Yeah, I can do this for a lot of things. Some things aren't as cut and dry and will require some experience and familiarity with the system.

I'm leaving a long time job next week, I would have preferred a month but the new employer wouldn't have allowed it, when it comes down to it, as a previous poster put it, 2weeks is responsible and fair. I'm surprised at all the '2 weeks is generous, they're let you go' talk. Must suck to be bad at what you do and burn bridges
