What type of jackwagon travels domestically with their passport?

Now? Practically none. In a couple of years? Could be more common.

I’ll use my GE card if it becomes an issue.

Did I say that?
You said if you arent poor you have a passport so this is a non-issue

Meaning non-poor people will use their passports to travel domestically starting oct 2020

So yes, you were inferring that

Truth is non-poor people will just go pay for a Real ID

Would have been much easier if you would have gotten the “for Federal Identification license”

No joking aside why are you traveling with your passport in America?

I don't bring it every single time. But anytime I'm going somewhere for longer than 3 or so days, I'll try to remember to bring it. Also in cases where I'm relatively close to a border I'll bring it as well.

Maybe I'm going to Seattle and meetings end early so I want to take a day to Vancouver, etc. Or I'm on a week-long trip in Virginia and wife calls and wants to go on a long-weekend trip. Last minute fares to Bahamas are cheap...but we can't get on same flight there.

I've only used it once when traveling domestically and it was more for novelty purposes, but doesn't take up any space and gives me a little be more freedom/flexibility

The primary point of the Real ID is to have your picture taken in a particular digitized format for Federal facial recognition purposes. The federal database wants you.
No joke.

because passports are issued on a permanent basis.
Passports have to be renewed every ten years.
