What's the deal with British announcers on US TV?

Seems to be a lot of people with British accents, and sometimes Austrailian, as news commentators on national news channels . Even on tons of infomercials. What's the deal? Are they supposed to be more believable or something?

They sound smarter and classier to most Americans with the right (a "posh") British accent.
If you've ever heard an attractive woman with a good British accent say the word "condom" you'll never hear it the same way again.

They want to work where they'll get laid the most. Anyway, who cares?
Meant to put paid, but that works too.

Cheaper labor, less entitlements, proper English. The opposite of Americans.

They're all leaving England so they don't get beheaded by muslims

They're supposed to be fancy/classy since they have a British accent, and Americans like British accents, but hate all other non-American accents

Americans find British accents "sophisticated". Probably has something to do with being under their rule in the colonial period.
