On one of several elk hunts I made with my brothers in the flattop wilderness area, where we had backpacked in 3 miles with pack mules up to 11k ft. Scouting alone during the middle of the day between the morning and evening hunts and hiking up to the top of a high ridge where you could see out to the horizon.

If it wasn’t for the jet contrails, it could have been 200 years ago and nothing would have been different.

played a father son baseball game against my youngest's team when he was around 13 or 14.

I was playing 2b, his team was batting. He hit a stand up double.

I've had millions of conversations at 2B during my lifetime. Both as the runner and as the middle infielder.

But for those few moments, it was my son standing there looking at me with that smirk on his face pretty much talking shite without even saying a word.
And the whole world just stopped for a second or two

Haha try having that moment when your dad was a sprinter and you hit 17 and finally beat him for the first time. I felt an immediate moment of joy then sadness when I realize it meant pops wasnt superman anymore

Kayaking on the Rogue River, until those damn jet boats would come around a sharp bend on the river with eight rows of 6 people sitting on benches from one end of the boat to the other while the pilot ran flat out and panic stopped at the last moment before running over you.

My first day home as a stay at home mom. Folding laundry, planning dinner and not worried about some BS 10K audit deadlines

All phones left at home, out on the boat in the middle of the water with friends, listening to music. Zero other boat traffic. On top of the world.

Was one of my most fun tailgates of all time. I unfortunately had to work during the game but it did not stop me from partaking in tailgate and watching the entire game

my son also pitched.
he had the shittiest changeup the planet has ever seen, but he was DETERMINED to master it.

I come up to bat later in that same game.
throws me one I turned on it, but foul.
throws another one that the umpire (his coach) called as trike. a bullshite call, btw.

I'm down 0-2. Step out and dare him to throw it to me again.
13 year old looks me dead in the eye and says "shut up and get in the box, dad"

then he burned a fastball on the inside corner I had no shot of catching.

struck me out, then stared me down on his way off the field.

apparently he'd even told his coach before the game he was blowing a heater past me if he got 2 strikes on me.

little bastard set me up.

Hiked to the highest point of Breckenridge solo. I was completely alone and the snow makes everything so quiet. It was the most peaceful moment I've ever had I'll never forget it.

I’ll also add being 21sh and loading up with my friends for a football weekend

When college football is the biggest “problem” you have, and everything in between is booze, women, and your best friends, it’s tough to imagine anything more liberating looking back

There’s some cute little stories in here but this sounds like perfection for me at this point in my life
