some are. but being in design and being a good PM are two totally different skill sets. plenty of engineers are not good at the overall finance side, they dont understand how to schedule and do not understand how to talk/work with those in the trades
the ones that do though, tend to be your best PMs

I would say some sort of finance or accounting. Most of the PMs I work with have CM degrees along with some sort of finance or accounting minors. My degree concentration is in accounting and I use that more often than anything that I learned from CM coursework. I'm not in project execution, though. Most of the construction knowledge that I use comes from hands on experience since I came up from the tools.
