What did you do to make her not trust you this much with an ex?

I’m dumb.
And little.
Sounds like you could be fun for a bit.

I knew my wife (no pics) would have issues about me going, so I went anyhow without her knowing. Paid my respects to his family and left.
My wife wouldn't be that petty. That's why she won't be my ex wife.

Did yall have kids?
My ex is remarried and her husband is my daughter's stepfather..so yeah, I'm pretty sure I'd go to support my daughter.
I was married long ago, with no kids, and she is remarried and lives in TX. NO chance I would attend...zero

No pics of wife but what about pics of ex wife?

I honestly find it weird the wife would get pissed about something like that. We are all adults here. Shouldn't be a big deal.

You are a good man who did the right thing. Your wife, like most women, has control issues.

It is a long story, I'll try to hit the main parts. My ex wife's husband worked with me on different construction projects over the years. We went out drinking to celebrate a successful project and ended up getting tore the frick up. My ex wife picked us up and I ended up crashing on their couch in Kenner. Nothing sexual, no threesome or anything, just crashed. That happened 4 years ago.

Women are petty and jealous. When she finds out, you’ll be accused of banging the ex at the funeral.

If you're gonna be accused anyway...

Pussified but classy move

Your wife's only concern would be that, with the ex's husband out of the picture, she may turn her attention back to you and you may be tempted to cheat. Not telling her will only exacerbate that concern. The way you describe the situation makes it seem pretty harmless at baseline. Now you've turned it into a thing. God speed.

Tell her you want to go and pay your respects. Ask her to go with you. If she declines, then she can’t be mad about you going.
Some folks just create drama for themselves.

The Doctor ( as far as you know) is in. Here is the common dynamic of the good man and the petty controlling wife ( this could be reversed);
The man realizes he has to “ manage “ his wife’s moods. He has to tiptoe around her. He begins to dread her outbursts. So he begins to Recede , to shrink, to make his life SMALLER to avoid the meltdown. In this scenario, he doesn’t go to the funeral as his heart tells him to. Rather, he denies his true self to maintain peace.
Over time, a sort of marital PTSD sets in. He begins to get PREEMPTIVE anxiety about his wife’s melting before anything ever happens. And then, here’s the sad pathetic kicker- he begins to actually feel preemptive guilt for things that have not happened. He ( or she ) feels he deserves it in some way.
Guys in this scenario often eat guns .

I wouldn't have an issue with this. You had a separate business relationship with him that had nothing to do with your ex-wife. It's appropriate to go and pay your respects.

What's ironic is that last weekend, I was invited to Houston by my GF's cousin for he & his new wife's infant's 1st birthday party.
We take the road trip, and the couisin's 3 ex-wives are there with their new husbands. The ex-wives brought the kids they had made when they were married to the cousin. The four couples all got along like old friends!
So bizarre.

tbh, my ex has more going for her sexually than my current wife. I’ll leave it at that.
