The reason the native Americans never advanced technologically can be partly blamed on not having domesticated beasts of burden. Until Europeans came over there were no native cattle oxen or horses in the Americas. Since there were no big animals they never invented the wheel, no carts no chariots, etc. trade remained what you could carry and it took a long arse time to transmit information. Hard to create a complex city and tech based society without those fundamentals

Too many untapped resources. The natives were living in mud huts and worshiping stick gods. It was just a matter of time before someone tapped that keg.

Civilizations in the americas also never developed the abilities to make bronze or iron. They were essentially stuck in the tool age, which makes the construction of their super city of Tenochitlan (modern day Mexico City) so impressive. At the time the Spanish first arrived, it was one of the largest cities in the entire world.

Also, no navigation, no firearms, no written language, no real mathematics (other than some proto-attempts at these by meso-Americans: crude hieroglyphics; some knowledge of astronomy).
