What would the OT do in this situation

Leaving a store tonight I noticed a guy slumped over in his truck with the motor running. I knocked on the window and asked if he was ok. He said he had fallen asleep. Seemed alert and coherent. I told my wife and she said I should have called the cops, that it was probably drugs or dwi and I might have gotten shot. What says the OT.

There have been plenty of times when I've gotten tired where I've pulled over into a gas station parking lot to rest. I leave the car running so that the car stays cool. Your wife is overreacting.

I’d def want to at least make sure he was ok/breathing... Rather than take it upon myself to make contact with him or feel like I’d overreacted by calling police, I’d probably have just split the baby and alerted store clerk/mgmt.

If he’s parked in the parking lot, he’s probably just trying to sleep off his buzz with the A/C running. The fact that this is considered a crime is absolutely ludicrous because it’s the safest way to sober back up. If he’s anywhere else (like at a stoplight or anywhere where he may not have stopped intentionally), call the police.

Not saying this is the case, but there are plenty of people who have sleep apnea that are so tired during the day that they have no choice but to find somewhere to close their eyes for a bit. Again, not saying this is the case here, but it could be since you said he seemed alert when you woke him up.

I’ve slept in parking lots like this before. Not drunk, believe it or not. Sometimes you need to get that power nap.
