What was the stereotype for wrestlers at your high school?
I went to school with 2 amazing wrestlers, the brothers Ben and Gus Kristonis at Tara. Ben was a really good kid back then, so was Gus.
I don't think Gus ever lost in HS.
If there were a better couple of wrestlers to come out of this state, I'd like to see em.

Some clubs like Brother Martin were very competitive and parents were enthusiastic but not in a bad way.
Then comes this guy from any random club-- Affliction shirt tucked in, 5'6, shiny belt buckle, likely the 1998 state champ in 125 lb division trying to live vicariously through his son. The rest of the club has to be embarrassed by this type of parent.
The stereotypical "Wrestling Dad" makes a "Dance Mom" look like an awesome parent. It was comical mostly but sometimes sad for the kid.

Don't remember any real stereotypes..
I do remember them spitting all day, not eating at lunch, and talking laxatives to make/cut weight.
Dudes almost always looked tired and miserable.

We didn't have wrestling at my school but my son has been wrestling for a few years. It is a wonderful sport. One upside is the parents don't bitch. If the wrestler isn't successful there isn't anyone else to blame.

Only wrasslin at my high school was near the bonfire in the middle of nowhere after them kids drank too much

Ben was an ornery little shite in HS. He wanted to fight dudes twice his size on the reg b/c of his state championship rasslin title. I never understood that.

They were just some guys. Typical jocks I guess. The one notable thing I remember was their cutting weight. That shite was freaky.

I remember he took a cat down in the cafeteria for bullying him his freshman year (could be misremembering). But that was the only trouble I remember him getting into all four years.

Having experienced all 3, No way do those compare to a the stereotypical rasslin dad.
It's likely due to the manner in which a rasslin dad can be so close to the mat and 'coach' his son as well as bitch and moan to the ref during the match. Then admonish his son like Kreese did Johnny for winning 2nd place.

I have never seen a wrestling dad threaten a coach. You see that almost weekly at football/baseball games.
I have watched Dad's in the audience make their 10 year-olds cry on the diamond in LL. . .then yell at them for crying.
Baseball Dad's are probably the cruelest, Football Dad's the most violent.

Best athletes in the school mixed in with some outright badasses who liked to drink, fight, and frick, in that order. We had a program that developed several D-1 wrestlers during my time there.
