La Contea has been open 5 years. It's good stuff.

Tha commercial is pretty bad though. Fly me to the moon.

Nothing against the 'customers' in the commercial because I'm sure they're all very nice, but why in the world would you choose them to star in it??

So did Sr or Jr own the restaurants?

Louis Jr. started it (Hammond Aire Plaza). Jr. was basically living at the restaurant when not sleeping on Uncle Bobby's (Sr.'s brother) couch.

Things started to take off, but Jr. kept it simple (pizza and calzone). Sr. came down from Jersey (maybe New York) to help as things were taking off nicely. Not sure if Sr. put some $$ in it and became part owner.

As others have said, grew too fast, lost focus on the core stuff, tried to franchise, quality control issues, etc.

Louis is a great guy by the way!

Me the wife and friends use to eat at the Hammond Aire restaurant back in the day. I had met Sr many times, we would run into each other making sales calls to the same customers. He seemed like a good guy.

Worked at several locations while in college… used to be one of the best casual dining places in town.

It was after the failed Mia Tavola(?) experiment that their casual themed restaurants tried to become more “upscale” (Big Lou had a large hand in this)
All the caricatures came down off the walls, the entertainment stopped being booked and the menus expanded to add various pastas and other more expensive items rather than keeping it simple with good calzones, pizzas and salads.

The franchising began and it became less of a “family” ran business and more of a corporate vibe. I left shortly thereafter around 2002 after 5 years or so… never was the same

Miss their pizza. Louis was a nice guy. Looks like he is going back to his roots with the new restaurant in WV.

the one in Dutchtown

the physical location of that building, for any restaurant, sucks... been a few people that have tried their hand their, and they all end up failing...
