When “The Who” performed, the fans destroyed the River Center, and they put a stop to all rock bands there for at least 10 years, and basically killed the growing music scene in BR.

That was about the time I worked offshore, and frankly, Lafayette appealed to me more back then. That point in time was really Austin's time in the sun, and for me, my time off the boats was either there or NOLA. Glad to hear BR is better though.

Lafayette was a fun, rocking place in the late 70s, early 80s, I guess when the oil patch when bust(that time,) it sort of took Lafayette with it

I knew a guy from Metry that went to Southwestern. It took him 9 years to get a marketing degree.

when I was at LSU, it wasn't uncommon for someone who'd had a bad semester to go there for a summer, or even a regular semester to pick up their GPA

What was the radio show where they'd pretend to interview opposing teams and play song sound bites for answers before the lsu games?

USL and Lafayette back then reminded me of Georgia Southern and Statesboro, Ga back in the late 60s and early 70s when I was in high school. Many, many females to die for, and plenty of heavy partying going on all the time. Also, it was a hop, skip, and a jump from both the Georgia and north Florida Atlantic coast beaches. I think it's rather ironic that Southern and ULL are both in the Sun Belt Conference now. With Troy and Ap State and a couple more like them in there, they should rename it the Party Hardy Conference.

Legend had it that there was a house across the river (along hwy 415) where a young college man could enjoy female companionship at reasonable mid-1970s prices.

Anybody remember that?

I recall a bunch of us driving over there one night, and there was a long driveway and one of those small hoses (like the gas stations had) that rang a bell when we crossed it. The lights in front of the house immediately came on and, like kids, we got scared and u-turned out of there.

I know of two places you describe back then:

The Spot in Krotz Springs & The Gates in Opelousas

It was pretty nice. Actually, until the influx of Katrina, Baton Rouge was on point. But post katrina - frick, no comparison.
