What Type of Pool Should I Get?

I own my house and would like a pool. I know it's not a good financial decision to have a $60k pool installed as you'll never recoup the investment.
Cheap above ground pools are so trashy though. Is there any other type of pool that isn't trashy, but won't cost $$$? I don't need to do laps, etc. Would purely be for jumping in on a hot day and hanging out with some beers. Would be nice if it could fit 3-4 adults comfortably. I'm willing to spend $10k-20k.
Been looking online and see semi-inground pools that don't look trashy. Also seeing people using livestock water troughs as soaking pools
ETA: the livestock troughs are trashier than a pickup pool just to clarify

So by your logic:
Above the ground pool: trashy
Swimming in a livestock drinking tub: not trashy?
Just wanted to confirm.

Lol, no that's totally trashy. The pictures kept coming up when I searched for in ground pool alternatives or semi inground pool.

Gunite. Fountains and bubblers. They are nice to look at plus they add sound that helps relax.
You're going to spend $25K plus and upward as a minimum.

unfortunately 60k doesnt get you much in a pool these days if you want a spa or have it look half way nice. I wouldnt necessarily say you'll never recoup your investment. You cant live in texas without a pool. Here it is considered an upgrade. Many houses with pools will sell way before those that dont. Since I put mine in, my home value increased dramatically as have my neighbors who put pools in compared to those who dont have pools.

Basic round pool with cheap tile and no coping is $40k, cheap spa is $20k. Throw in flagstone coping, waterfall, etc and sky is Sky is the limit.
In short, you need to warm up to above ground as it's likely your only option.

But in all seriousness, you could buy an above ground pool (whatever size you need) and build a deck or brick layout around it to hide the outside. That would be your cheapest "non-trashy" option, according to your criteria.

Sometimes you have to do a little more than you planned rather than a little less than you should.
This is mine:

If you need any help with design ideas, functionality over form, etc. let me know. I'll be glad to help.
I built my pool for $46K. Heated, bubblers, fountains, Intellibrite lighting, controlled from my phone, 650 sq. ft and about 20,000 gallons.

How the frick does a pool cost that much?
It's a hole with water in it.
What's the cost breakdown?

Enjoy your above ground pool.
Minimum in ground costs about 35k and that's no frills

A basic pool with nothing is 50k. When you start adding a spa, water features, stone work, fancier coping, decking, etc. shite adds up FAST.
ETA: Do not underestimate the engineering on your pool for the type of soil in your area. Trust me, you get what you pay for. When you start seeing people with pool who have major leaking issues because the proper steps were not taken to prep the foundation of the pool before gunite. There are lots of thing that should be considered other than just digging a hole for the cheapest cost.

That's a badass setup WC, nicely done.

You could always get a loan for the pool. That is definitely what I would do if I wanted something expensive that I could not afford.
