Think about that for a second.
Real food comes packaged with a variety of other nutrients. Zinc, copper, iron, magnesium, vitamins, etc, etc, etc.
Powder is often just protein, with little other benefits.
There's a place for whey, but it should never be a cornerstone of your protein plan.

I thought about it before I posted. I wanted him to explain it.
If he's concerned with gaining weight, he's going to be getting plenty of his essential vitamins and will have to be supplementing.
You're not gonna put on weight by skipping meals.
And creatine is a pretty proven supplement at this point. It is more than just "water weight"

But real food comes with more calories, too.
So weight comes on easier.
I've done it both ways, and real food is easier, IMO.
Unless you are just lazy.

Not necessarily. Plenty of mass gainers that are easy to put down
And whey protein tends to still contain a lot of vitamins, such as B12.

Not really. You can buy certain postworkout supplements that have more than protein.
Also, you have to think about how hard it is to eat clean and gain mass.
You can have a huge plate of brown rice, two chicken breasts, and a plate of steamed veggies and you're probably staring at 900 calories. When you have to get to 3,500 calories, it's tough to eat so much (and it gets expensive).
A mass gainer helps make it more manageable and saves you money.

Thanks to the ones who gave me positive advice

Of course. What do you eat for breakfast?
Posted on 2/9/16 at 10:42 am to SabiDojo
Mostly,a quick cereal and toast. Don't have much time.

That's why they call it a supplement, bro. It supplements the other food that you eat.

Should I take a pre-workout? I feel like I may need a little caffeine jolt, but don't want a lot of sugar and other additives. Should I just have some coffee?

Creatine will give you an instant 5. But it doesn't help in gaining. You'll just always be 5 pounds heavier than if you weren't on it.

Wake up earlier, bro. Make you some eggs and eat it with wheat toast.
Steel cut oats are really good, too. You may have to make them the night before, but they keep well in the fridge (they will last a week cooked). That way, you can make it once and eat it all week. Sprinkle some cinnamon, add some fruit, bam! You have yourself a really good breakfast. I drizzle honey on mine. Yumz, bro.
If you want to get big, you have to eat big.

It's what I do. Those preworkouts get pricey month after month.
I make coffee or black tea. If you make coffee, pour some unsweetened almond milk and then add a little bit of sugar or sweetener (if you don't like the taste of black).
Or, make some black tea and put a small spoon of honey in it.

At 37 y/o, I wouldn't worry about gaining weight. That will happen naturally, whether you want to or not. Just work on getting stronger.

I said eggs because they have essential fats and cholesterol which boost testosterone.
I usually make 2 to 3 eggs every morning, but I always add egg beaters or egg whites for extra protein.

I use advocare sparks before work outs and if I am feeling drowsy at work. Works good for me before workouts.
