Long story short, guy in my fantasy league is going through a hard time and is talking about killing himself right now
I really dont know how to handle this. I texted the suicide hotline number but I obviously have no idea if he will call it. I have texted his cousin whose in our league to go stay with him tonight but hes not responding. I honestly dont know what to do and I'm kinda worries this dude is going to end up killing himself tonight

People who kill themselves don’t usually talk about it, he just wants attention

Offer to meet up if he wants to talk. Notify some family of his through Facebook maybe. What is he communicating suicidal thoughts through? Text or social media?

Possible. But I just dont want this guy to do something, and knowing that he truly was reaching out for help at the last moment and I ignored it

Are y’all in he same city? If so offer to go hang out with him. That’s what they need more than anything is just a friend to help them get through tough spots. A hotline is fine but imo a friend is much much better.

If you’re really concerned you could try to call a wellness check through local law enforcement. Might be able to get an involuntary psych hold. That would probably be the nuclear option, though.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Did he give specific on why he wants to do it?
Ask to get on a Call/Skype/FaceTime to chat.

Definitely make sure the OT is made aware first.
My perception of mental illness recently changed forever after a guy I served with killed himself out of the blue with no warning. This is not something to take lightly, whether he is only seeking attention or not. His attention seeking behavior is being caused by something and he should seek help before what he does for attention continues to escalate.

Yea he did. That's when I started worrying. But it sounds like his family got involved and it's ok for now

NM just saw this. Ask him what his phone number is and just give him a call to chat. And don’t stay focused on suicide, just chat about all kinds of stuff. Try to make friends ya know, and tell him to call you tomorrow too. It’ll be effort on your part but you’ll look back on it with satisfaction for doing a good deed plus who knows might even turn out to legit make friends with the guy.

Not true.

It’s easy how we take for granted the high times in our lives. I thought the past year was rough. It’s nothing like I’m going through right now. I can see how people feel hopeless.

He is unlikely to actually do it if he is talking about.
However, I would still take him serious and show support however you can.
Just show him you care. I am not sure exactly how.

That's not bad advice. I probably would have done that after a little while longer but wish I thought of that earlier
