If you want to go the sports route go to Butler's game on Wednesday
That's a great idea. I completely forgot Butler was in Indy. Was planning on finding a bar and getting drunk with some locals for the Pacers @ Bucks game on Wednesday, but might have to make other arrangements

Depends where in Indy you are staying. Downtown has a ton of stuff to do at night. Ruth's Chris is pretty freaking good (especially if you're able

You DO NOT go to a Ruth Chris if you are in Indy...St. Elmos is the answer.

It's only an hour or so but I'm not really trying to mess around too much in a rental - especially if there's a good chance that I'll be drinking. Would love to check out Assembly Hall, though.

Downtown restaurants: capital grille, fogo de chao, st Elmo’s are good.

If you have kids the children’s museum is awesome. Grand Park up in Westfield is the largest sports park too.

It’s warming up a bit next week (mid 50’s), so if you wanted to do something outside, Eagle Creek park is nice. It’s about 20 minutes from downtown.

Why do they have so many conferences? I’m supposed to be going there in a few weeks, myself, unless it gets called off because of Coronavirus.

Meh, Indy has terrible crime inside I-465 unless you are in the really wealthy parts of town. The northern “suburbs” of Indy like Carmel, Zionsville, and Noblesville have a lot going for them. Fishers is very overrated though I must say.

If you're sensible downtown isn't horrible. I guess it depends on your perspective though. I drive downtown Chicago a lot and as long as you have common sense it's fine. (I never go west of 94 unless it's daytime and either to the gentrified morsel or the UC.) In Indy if you are outside 465 it's generally good though LivePD has opened my eyes about the eastern suburbs. Still can't be worse than the shithole that is East STL.

Location, but while many cities could also say that, I think Indianapolis embraced it in a smarter way than any city of its size and place.

Even the NFL uses it for its potential draftees and has for decades.

Visit the Speedway. Lucas Oil Tour. Benjamin Harrison stuff. There are a few cool museums. Butler and the Pacers may have games. Broad Ripple is a cool area of town. Actually a ton of good places to eat there. Indy is actually not bad at all.

Hit up the lobby bar at the JW Marriott if you’re looking for some good scenery.
