So the little lady and I will be spending next weekend in Birmingham and, having never been there, I would like to see what the OT suggests we do for fun. We're both early 20s fwiw.

We're currently planning on staying in the Five Points area, but I can definitely be persuaded otherwise.

The Midlands of England is cool.

Go to a soccer match, duh.

some seriously good restaurants in that area...Bottega, Highlands, Hot Hot Fish Club

I went to the Garage Cafe (it's a bar) after dinner and thought it was a cool place with some solid local beer.

If youre into good beer:

Trimtab Brewery
Avondale Brewery
Good People Brewery
are all good places to grab a beer and chill.

See if theres a show at Alabama theatre.

Go to Oak Mountain State Park and spend the day there.

Other generic city things. Lots of places to eat.

Sorry

That you are going to the wrong Birmingham.

Five Points is as good as it gets.

B'ham, AL is marginally better than Jackson, Mississippi if that gives you any perspective.

-Go eat at Saw's soul food in Avondale. Then walk to Avondale Brewery and get a drink.
-see if there's a show at Iron City you like coming up
-Look into a bar called The Garage if you want a chill scene with a good atmosphere
-Go to Lakeview if you're into a more lively, younger bar scene. Rare Martini, Sidebar, Nana Funks, Tin Roof are all good and right there in walking distance
-Oak Mtn state park
-Ruffner Mtn is much closer if you're actually staying in Bham
-Vulcan if you want to get all gay with your lady and show her a good view

The J. Clyde has great beer selection and good food as well. Right near the Five Points area.

Iron City and Work Play are two great music clubs around the corner from each other (DT checks the calendar), but sadly it looks like a quiet weekend for music.

BHM is a wonderful town, you'll find plenty to do / eat / listen to. +1 on all of the breweries there, and if you want to go big / dress up / burn some $, eat at one of Frank Stitt's / Chris Hastings fine restaurants.

While there, tune into my friends at Birmingham Mountain Radio (107.3 in town or via the usual online methods). They define what a modern pop-alternative station should be -- they've been the lead station on many new acts.

Ensley, Fairfield, Midfield, Lipscomb, Brighton, Tuxedo Junction, and Bessemer are all worth visiting. Night time is best.

Seriously, see the Vulcan. Eat at the Bright Star. Kelly Ingram Park and 16th St. Baptist Church, if you're into history and stuff. The steel mills are cool to ride around and look at.

That's about it. And be careful you don't get killed, robbed, raped, or stabbed.
