I am sure the news depressed you a little bit. I like a good cheeseburger when I am depressed. Hit up 5 Guys for a double and some fries. You will feel better about stuff.

What foods/drinks contribute to high cholesterol ?
I'm in my late 20s...should I really be concerned with my cholesterol?

Um....I don't like olives, so not that. Blue cheese is disgusting, so I don't eat that. Really, it's easier to list what I don't eat

Take a staton. You're an idiot for refusing to prevent heart disease.

Why in the frick won't you take a pill for it? Mine was high, got on the medication, no side effects, and it dropped like a rock. I'm also "pre-diabetic" now. I will die before I change my eating habits. Food is one of the great joys of life, and if it tastes good it isn't good for you. Fix it with a pill or let me die happy.
This couldnt be further from the truth. First of all, high cholesterol does not automatically correlate to being unhealthy or at high risk for a heart attack. Secondly, dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol have zero correlation. You can eat a 1/2 stick of butter, 3 ground beef patties, 10 slices of bacon, and 5 scrambled eggs a day and it wont affect your blood cholesterol (I actually eat simliar to this). In fact, your body will thank you for taking in all of that good, healthy fat. High blood cholesterol can be attributed to a ton of things, but fatty foods arent the cause. Genetics far and away are no.1, then smoking, stress, lack of exercise, body fat and making your arteries inflammed by taking in processed/far too many carbohydrates (sugar). You can lower you cholesterol all you want, but that doesnt mean that you are any less of a risk because it has been proven time and time again that high blood cholesterol doesnt attribute to heart disease.
Statin drugs are fricking terrible for you and are unneccesary. But what do you expect from a cardiologist, for him to tell you "hey, you have terrible genetics. You need to exercise more and eat more butter." No, they will never do that because doctors are in the business of prescribing medication to people, not healing people. Research the lipid hypothesis for more on this.
The Diet Heart Myth by Chris Kresser is a revelation of a read and can steer you in the right direction.
If you want to lower your cholesterol (even though it doesnt really matter all that much), quit eating wheat products, rice and other starches and cut out sugar. Eat more fruits and vegetables and consume high fat animal products and more butter.
Edit: Judging by the people in here telling you to take statin drugs, alot more people can benefit from reading Kresser's work, and the many other like minded, unbiased Ph.D's that have studied dietary/blood cholesterol.
Eat the Yolks is another great read on this topic.

All I remember is the first number. He said some other stuff, then told me I'd probably have a heart attack soon, and that I either needed to eat differently or take meds
I can't tell if you intentionally try to look like a dumbass or if it happens naturally

Well, if you had breakfast and it was particularly greasy, that could have spiked the results.
Kind of important that you remember.

Honey nut Cheerios?
Cereal and milk is one of the worst things you can eat. It's amazing how far our culture has shifted from actually eating real food.
There's approx 100 grams of sugar in one bowl of honey nut cheerios, but continue eating your "health food".

That was too long ago and insignificant enough at the time for me to not remember. If he told me to fast (I'm assuming so if that's what you're supposed to do), then I did it.
That memory is just not in my head
