what keeps are person from crossing those boundaries? Integrity

It’s actually mostly muscle memory.

I don’t have female friends. I have not had any female friends during the course of my marriage. Integrity is not what’s preventing me from going out and making friends with a female today.

There was a time when I considered ending our marriage. Having a “female friend” during that time probably would not have been a good thing for me.

My wife’s affair started as an emotional affair with her work husband. She confided in him for everything. Instead of talking with me, it was with him. Then it morphed into lunch dates during the work week. I had no clue until she told me. I didn’t want to think my wife and friend were in love.

And they both stated over and over, "we're just friends", just like the naive people (like GreenRockTiger) are saying. They're just friends until they aren't.

I don't see why people can't admit the strangeness of it. Men and women are very different in how they handle just about everything in life.

These "friendships" will morph given enough time.

So you spend one on one, alone time, with a straight man that you call a friend and your husband is ok with that?
at work yes, and my husband spends a lot of time, one on one, with straight women and I’m fine with that

I don’t have sexual feelings for the men at work, even at previous jobs. But I did/do consider them friends. My husband knows what my job entails, and he’s fine with it. I don’t understand how anyone could think differently, unless they have trust issues.

I have quite a few guy friends. When you are ugly, fat, and old they don’t want to sleep with you and you can just be friends

exactly - the other day the barista at CC’s gave me two brownies - my husband teased ‘what did you do for those brownies?’ And #1 said, gross, who would want mom?

Your husband I assume

And, knock on wood, if you ever have/disclose any serious marital problems with those male friends of yours, you might find that he’s not the only one.

Some of my female freinds go back 25 years...I think of them as sisters.

not that my husband is skinny, but one of the guys at work is a tub of lard - the other one is a priest (I’m not a young boy - so I should be good)

The amount of people that use “worse” and “worst” wrong is staggering.

Well played. Have an upvote

I will say this though, I’m convinced that every woman on the planet is some man’s type. Every single one.

You can convince yourself of this by watching 600 lb Life. Literally half the woman have some live in boyfriend bathing their layers and caring for their soars. Some of them are even somehow sexually active.

Don’t underestimate the extent to which we men will think with our penises.

But no guy is sending a female “friend” 20 texts per day unless he’s in for something more.

One of my friends has been dating a girl for a few years and he claims he’s very serious about her. They grew up together, family friends, and all that

But they’ve been long distance for almost 2 years because of school. He’s very close friends with this one girl. She’s over at his place a lot, they study together, get food together, work out together, etc. They’re not flirty necessarily but they’re too close for there to be nothing at all. Somehow his girl is ok with it
