California

West coast in general is bad. But I can't take the average California resident.

How many ca residents do you know?

That's like saying you wouldn't live in NOLA because of Livingston trash. Not one state is homogenous.

Have you ever been to the west coast or had to live by a California resident for a long period of time?

To answer your original question. North Dakota.

Honorable mention: Mississippi & Alabama

Literally the last state I would live in. I would live in one of the Dakotas or Kansas before I lived there.

California is such a different experience depending on where you live within the State.

California

Is an amazing state to live in (if you can afford it.) The mountainous terrain and Mediterranean climate really do it for me. Plus, they have a lot of focus on work-life balance so there's a ton of recreational infrastructure (trails all ovah the place.) On top of that you have some other lesser talked about cities that are more midwestern (Sacramento) and some that seem like they are Texas (Bakersfield/Fresno).

So yeah, the politics aren't good but it's great in terms of enjoying your life. I just worry I wouldn't be able to hack it financially.

Odd statement. Again, the west is beautiful. From Shasta to Oregon to Washington is pretty great. Highly educated populaces, high paying jobs, safe cities, good schools, and recreational activities out the wazoo.

Oh, and the West coast is where most of our technological advances are engineered. The device you are posting on, the processors it uses, and this website's underlying platform were all likely designed on the west coast.

To sit there in Louisiana and throw out blanket statements about how shitty the west coast just further embarrasses us, otherwise sane, Louisiana residents.
