Google absolutely sucks now. The reason that everyone liked it was because it used to be simple, no ads, and served up good results. It's become no better than Yahoo now, is full of ads, serves up terrible results, and is heavily censored (as in you only see what they want you to see).

Google - New version of Yahoo
Yahoo - terrible
DuckDuckGo - more private but results aren't great
Luxxle - Very private and uncensored but results suck
Bing - Not much better than Google with the same issues

I can't recall a time I didn't find what I needed on Google. Are you bad at the internet?

Big Infoseek, Lycos, and Excite guy here

In all seriousness, I just use Google but spend a few more seconds writing a better search. It has gotten worse the past few years, and the ads are annoying as hell.

I call the public library and ask for a real librarian. Then I ask the librarian to search it for me.

Where google has really become almost unusable is when you want to find something that's obscure. Like you have a very rare record from a 1980's band that's not listed in the big databases like discogs. Google used to be great for things like this as actual articles, blog mentions, message board posts etc would show up in the results.

Now you get about 100 pages of paid sponsors that have nothing to do with what you're looking for instead.
