It’s also that there is no American ethnicity. I mean, is a Pole really all that different from a German? frick yes if you ask them, but if you look at them can you really see it? Same thing with the French.

I want to argue that the synthesis of Scots and English is the true American ethnicity, but I'm just being vain.

That's certainly true, but if you've done any international travel, you'll recognize a general national character/disposition. Americans don't act like Englishmen, who don't act like Spaniards, who don't act like Greeks, etc., in a comprehensive sense.
