Any help is greatly appreciated.

Details:

Baltic Birch wood

Want to paint it white.

It's going to be something that a bunch of people will sign with a small tip permanent marker as well.

Anyone have recommendations for a paint that won't rub off or scuff easily?

Also, not looking for it to shine, so would that mean don't use a gloss paint?

It's about 30 x 36 inches.
Want something that does a little better coverage than finger paint.

You want to find something that won’t irritate the skin.

Get an oil based paint, no acrylic or latex. Acrylic and latex coat paint, meaning on wood which will age it will crack or peel in time. Oil will “soak” in and not give you those problems

I was thinking of a flat white. Didn't think about priming it first though, thanks.

This. Seems like it would be fairly obvious. Just added the sanding part. If you wanted to go a little better, a sealer would probably be better than a simple primer.

Yes, I asked your father and he didn't know. He said his son's boyfriend might know though, so can you ask him for me?

I was wondering if the oil based would be better for that. So is there also an oil based primer? Also, will the oil based allow for writing to show up and not easily wipe off?

Yes, just ask the fricking attendant at home depot in the paint section.....you know, when you go to buy it

So backstory is that I worked as a painter during college summers probably 15 years ago. That being said, there is def a primer We called it paint and sand, meaning after you paint it with the primer it brings out all the burs in the wood that would come out over time, then you sand it.... it creates a super smooth finish. I’m not sure on the writing. But know this latex or acrylic will chip if used on furniture or anything that gets regular use. I would just go to sherwin Willams and ask them and pay a bit more. You could also just do that chalk paint.

Bottom line is I got a degree and became a bigshot so I didn’t have to paint ever again. So in the past 15 years I’m sure their has been some improvement in paints.

Subtle admission that you've never actually worked on any do it yourself type projects before.
