Around my parts Lions club.
They throw the best parties and drink the most beer while helping out the blind.

Lions Club does great work and reaches more people. Lions Camp for kids (diabetes, crippled children, etc) in Leesville, La is amazing. I witnessed it firsthand.
The others are ok, but I believe it benefits the members more by joining versus the other way around....helping and servicing the community.

Did they change the name for PC purposes? Growing up it was always called the "Lion's Crippled Children's Camp".

The Leopard Lodge. Always wanted to wear the "Grand Poobah" hat like Howard.

When I was 19-20ish I decided to join the KC after a few guys I knew, who were joining asked me to join as well.
It didn't take long to realize that all the active members were dudes who just needed a reason to get away from their wives and/or it gave them some sense of importance. After I became a member, I wasn't active at all.
Every year I would pay my dues and that was that, but there was also the Evangeline thing in which all HC senior girls are eligible for. Some many girls are selected to be a princess or some shite and one of them gets crowned Evangeline. In order for them to get picked to be a princess, they have to call all the members and ask for their vote.
Every year.. I think in July or August... Maybe September. You get a list mailed to you, it had the name of every girl eligible to be a princess, so all of these little girls would call all the time. They would be nervous as hell asking for you to consider voting for them.. I got to the point where I stopped answering.. I got calls from some of the older members asking "hey, can you vote for such and such". One time one of the members called me and was like "I love when they call me, they are so nervous. I like to give them a hard time because some of them will do anything for a vote". That's when I decided to not to renew.
When I decided not to renew, they had several people call me to try to convince me to reconsider and tell me what it means to be a member, etc, etc.. I told them I was still not going to renew, then they sent some dude to my house to see how he can "make it work for me". He gave me a spiel, I told him I was still not going to renew and that old dude was like "I live just north of Lafayette and I just drove here, from there. Will you at least give it one more year?" At that point I thought the dude was trying to make me feel bad, which only made me not want to renew even more.. So I told him "look, I can tell you what you want to hear, but I am not renewing. Have a good day". He tried to tell me some more BS and I told him I needed to get something done and just ignored him. He didn't say anything and just left.
That's my only experience with one of these groups I have.
