Just wait and get one from the people that call you every single day about buying one.

Whatever you do don't do this. Not all service contracts are created equally. There are a lot of crap ones that solicit you for business.

If you have a decent emergency fund that would allow you to pay a $1,000 service bill, then you should be fine.

If it is like my '07 Civic then everything will slowly fall apart around that wonderful engine.

Perhaps. As a former '98 Accord owner that was not my "Honda" experience. Lasted until 2008-09 before what you described remotely began to occur. As long as the Civic gets her through the next 5 years incl. college, I'll be more than satisied. Anything beyond that is gravy.

You don't need it until you need it.

I had a piston slap (have no idea what that is) in my trailblazer. Chevy damn near replaced my entire engine.

Was worth it for me.

but it must be a factory warranty , not some third party crap
We got a third party warranty. Got the full warranty, and it's already paid off a good bit.

If you find a mechanic that will "really look into" the coverage and then "thoroughly inspect and repair" those areas, it can be a pretty good buy.

I definitely exceeded it last year, and if I went back and looked at everything they did the first year, I'm sure it's close. Plus the car is in tip-top shape.

I had zero problem forking over $900 to double the miles and coverage for my Jeep.

Went from 36k miles/3 years to 75k miles/ 7years. Not even to 25k after 2.66 years

IF you gonna buy one skip the dealership and go to your credit union- you will get an equal plan for 60-70% cheaper-

Negotiate as far down as possible and agree on a price.

If financing, when they offer the warranty, tell them you will take it, but only if your term and monthly note stays the same.

I have had mixed results ranging from same exact note to $5 more per month. Only once have I been turned down flatly.

Not sure where you are buying from but request either a manufacturer warranty (ex. GM vehicle buy a GMPP) or buy an LDS warranty the others have a bunch of holes in them where the coverage is not as good

The correct answer, also most F&I guys will sell at $50-100 over their cost because they get paid kickbacks and also get evaluated on warranty penetration percentage. Yes they get paid a % of what they make on the back whether it is marking up buy rate from the lender or selling products but one with poor product penetration doesn't last long. I would only trust the manufacturer extended warranty (typically expensive) or if in Louisiana then LDS is the best.

Also if you have an issue LDS is off of Bluebonnet and you can go raise hell LDS is basically a company formed by Louisiana Dealers insuring themselves against warranty repairs.

I told one jackass if he offered that shite to me and tried to pressure me to buy it I would walk out on the deal. He did. I walked. Told the sales guy sorry.

I bought a new luxury car and may consider buying an extended warranty through the dealership.

A few on here have posted about buying a warranty, but why buy from the dealership who marks up everything.

Why not buy it somewhere else?

You can buy from any dealer in the country. In short, you can get dealers to compete against one another to get a better price. I own a Mercedes and want manufacturer extended warranty.

I almost bought one when I purchased the car but I did not want to shell out another $2-3K cash at the time.
