East Baton Rouge doesn't have anywhere near the proportion of judges and district attorneys that refuse to hold people accountable for breaking the law as Orleans parish does.

East Baton Rouge has the worst judge for this in the entire state, so lets not cast stones here

But it is sounding like this sort of refuge isn't even possible in New Orleans anymore.. in any part of the city.

That unfortunately appears to be what's happening in New Orleans. It's a geographically small parish, and not very diverse from a political perspective. Regardless of where you are there, violent crime isn't far away.

I think the biggest clue to haul arse would be that the Mayor, DA and most of the constituents despise you.

Seems like they aren't really "accomplishing" much either way, huh?

People love to shite on suburbs and pretend they’re too cool and cosmopolitan for a planned neighborhood, but the thought of a carjacking or shootout never even has to cross my mind.

Baton Rouge sits in a huge parish with developing suburban districts that still care about public safety.

That's why you still have some sensible judges in EBR. There's still a big problem with BRPD being undermined by the mayor's office though.

It's unfortunate, but New Orleans is much deeper down the rabbit hole. I'm not sure if it can be fixed in time for the city to recover. You basically get San Francisco or Chicago politics influencing in the justice system, but without any of the economic momentum of those larger cities.

Jesuit is only considered in a "class of it's own" because of the focus they have on test preparation. They are all really close to providing the same real world education, Rummel included

Well said; however, I will say Jesuit’s piggy bank also puts it in a class of its own as well.

am very curious how long folks will put up with the Nola BS and still send their kids to school there especially when you don’t have to put up with any of the BS a couple miles down the road.

If you’re sending your kids to Jesuit, Newman, etc., there are few to no alternatives in other parishes

Country Day and St. Martin’s are comparable to Newman (at least in price tag)

I truly don't see the value proposition of Metairie if you don't want anything to do with New Orleans. You're paying for the proximity.

All about response times. NOPD is making the city Detroit

East Baton Rouge

If we could get a competent mayor and police chief, and pair that (hopefully) with a decent governor Baton Rouge's problems(other than traffic) could disappear in a decade and it could actually grow at a decent pace. Hillar Moorr isn't a great DA but it's hard to judge him right now, I think he still cares. With all of the issues in NOLA, BR could be the economic center of Louisiana in a few decades. I don't see it happening, you'd have to essentially catch lightning in a bottle, but I haven't given up hope yet. I gave up on New Orleans many years ago. It's just going to become more of a cesspool with a few good areas that eventually won't be insulated at all from crime.

And BR doesn’t have issues? So many people are escaping it that their suburbs have the biggest schools in the state

The point he was making is that if a functional NO is not in the picture, what does Metairie offer in and of itself that would justify living there vs a suburb of any other city that has fewer storms, better schools, etc? If you aren’t willing to step foot in NO, you might as well move to Tx, Tn, or Fl for more jobs, higher pay, and better just about everything except parties.

There is a bit of difference in the sense of going to Nola for business reasons vs pleasure. Nola still have the River that is a big economic driver so that will remain and it appears the tourism will at least continue to survive in some aspect.
