I work as a recruiter for a business, I call people to set up interviews.
Tell me more.

But come interview day, only 1 or 2 show up. One may cancel but the rest will completely ghost me.
Sounds like you aren't that good of a recruiter.

Is it too much to ask someone to be professional and let me know that they will not be making their schedule interview?
Don't blame the lazy people...
they didn't do anything.

On the flip side, why can recruiters never get back to the people that interviewed? Had multiple experiences where I've gone through the interview process only to be ghosted by recruiters. At least tell me no so I can move on.
This. OP does the same I’m sure

I have my own biz and have been ghosted by people, potential clients and potential employees, for the last 30 years. It's nothing new, just roll with it

The social contract has been broken.

Stop doing phone interviews just have open interview days like a damn burger kang. Been there done that. What’s your turnover rate ? What do you pay? 18-22 and hour? They can get that at target why put up with phone interviews and f2f when they can walk in to target and get 18-22 an hour. It’s a tough world out there H1B is the ticket to lazy Americans .

Interview committee where I used to work was interviewing one young man when his cell phone rang and he sternly told the committee, "I'm gonna have to take this" and proceeded to exit the room.
Needless to say, the interview was deemed over by the committee and the young man is probably still looking for a job somewhere.

It's a reflection of our society. We no longer value each other today, so crapping on each other is no big deal in the eyes of many.
Say what you want about the old days, but respect and dignity for one another was a requirement. If you didn't see it that way, a wooden paddle or a nice switch was a very effective tool in changing your mind!

We have one worker under 30, and he's worthless.
This is the best job he will ever have, and he does nothing but complain when he doesn't get his way, and does as little as possible.
Has no concept of building relationships, networking, earning respect.

I get ghosted by small, local businesses that I'm trying to give 5/6 figures of business to. Welcome to 2023, I guess

Yep. I don't think candidates think it's "serious" like we all thought about an interview.
I constantly amazed at how many people are willing to burn bridges by disappearing during the process.
My previous job was landed because I was respectful. I interviewed with a company, but their process was entirely too long. I accepted another offer, but let the recruiter know. A couple years later, I was laid off from the other job, and later THAT DAY the recruiter called me and asked if I was still interested in that position... no interviews needed. Hired within the week.
